& Company SK

Energetic grooves and a showcase of musicianship - performed by one of Slovakia's most important jazz artist and his band of top Slovak musicians.

Bassist and double bass player Juraj Griglák’s musical career was basically predestined. He was born into the family of a member of the Czechoslovak Radio Symphony Orchestra in Bratislava and a singer in the Slovak Folk Art Collective. While still a student, he managed to make a name for himself in Martin Kratochvil’s Jazz Q or the Esprit group.

A multi-talented musician, he divides his career between fusion and classical music – as a double bass player he is a permanent member of the Slovak Philharmonic Orchestra. In the new millennium, he began to make a significant impact as a solo artist, debuting in 2000 with an album Bass Friends, which he followed up fourteen years later with Time To Fly. His latest solo album is 2019’s From The Bottom.

His work and stage presence is characterised by the boldness with which he draws inspiration from fusion music legends such as Miles Davis, John Scofield, Marcus Miller and Jaco Pastorius. He will bring his Juraj Griglák & Company project to Groove Brno, where he will perform at the Metro Music Bar on 19 November. Besides Griglák, his line-up will include Eugen Vizváry on keyboards, Michal Cálik on trumpet and Dávid Hodek on drums. Their set promises energetic grooves and a showcase of musicianship.

“A relentless pursuit of an intense musical experience”. JazzPort.cz about Time To Fly.

“I am not going to write about how well Griglák can play the bass. In this respect, Time to Fly is a technical lesson for generations of young bassists in Slovakia. The album is also a profile of Griglák’s compositional and arranging style, which has been influenced by jazz, funk and classical music over the years. Jazz.sk about Time To Fly
